Work a niche, and make sure to directly interact with the community for that niche. Normalfag shit is already oversaturated, you won't get any recognition or customer loyalty for it unless you're part of the nepotist framework that gets your game promoted by """""""""journalists""""""""""".

So basically or . Be careful about trying to grab multiple demographics at once though because they're often mutually exclusive.

What most indie devs do is they make friends with journalists at conventions and get them to do preview articles/videos and get the word out.

Name one good indie game that flopped.

Make sure your art or aesthetic is good, not Tumblr definition of good or hipster good but pleasing to the eye. Give it a stand out gimmick like GIANT TITS ARE EATING MEN or I AM DEPRESSED AND I TRY NOT TO STAB PEOPLE some kind of hook that occurs and sells itself in the first 10 minutes of the game. Then doubly make sure you have a good trailer, screenshots and logo for steam. After that throw keys to Youtubers.

Even the simplest idea can make bank but it needs to be a direct but plentiful niche and have good looking women and men ideally. Or it needs to be so niche it becomes appealing to a wide audience, something like "AIM Friendzone RP Rejection Simulator Horror Game"where you make a copyright safe 1/2 recreation of the instant messenger days and the horror is trying not to be friend zoned. If you go the retro style game route you better have some good fucking sprite work and solid mechanics, and probably tits or cheeky brats.

Add gay furries.

Even with a good game, you'll definitely want some marketing to get higher initial sales, otherwise it could take a year or more before people notice your game even exists. But either way, a good game will sell well in the end

begging for exposure never works, you cant go to people and demand popularity, you need to draw them to you, think about what people like, figure out how to highlight the parts of your game that people would find agreeable, and so on

just spam the shit out of it and eventually it'll stick and people will spread it for you
