Senior Quest Designer from Horizon ZD/FW Shits on Elden Ring's Quest Design

Title + PicRel.

Elden Ring may be cryptic in its quest design, its a From staple I guess, like it or not, but its way better than a million icons on your screen telling you where to go next.

wtf is "game UX"

User Experience

Gamers seethe if their game doesnt look like this. Didn't they like Far Cry 5 and BOTW for this reason?

At least they can design an engaging experience and actual challenge. Those Horizon games put me to sleep

oh I thought it was some gay nigger shit like accessibility or smth

Yeah, bet they would prefer this

Same. Dropped it after 20 hrs, shortly after The Proving and starting on the quest given to you by the old bitches. It just lost its charm after it once I saw it was a cookie cutter open world

>It doesn't NEED good UX
>It doesn't NEED good performance
>It doesn't NEED to be stable
>It doesn't NEED good quest design
I'm getting sick of winning all the time, Shazamchads. At this point, dunking on fromdrones is just like dunking on the wheelchair kids at the special olympics

Watching Snoy salt over Elden Ring is hilarious

My only complaint is that crafting is as boring as it is in any other open world shit.

I will never play the new Horizon, but I did suffer through the first one and am confused as to what this faggot thinks is good quest design.
In the first shitty Horizon game quests were basically:
>talk to strong woman or onions numale
>get quest to go somewhere or kill someone
>repeat
That's pretty much it. I've heard the new game is pretty much more of the same.

crafting is boring in every genre because it's just a camouflaged fetch quest without the flavor text.

Don't you mean MORE engaging and MORE challenging experience? Because to me there is nothing engaging about O R1 again and the same fucking story again and the same fucking themes again.

Maybe they should do some self-reflection and realize that "what you're asked do as a game designer in a AAA company" is bullshit

Fromsoft is pretty much the Gamefreak of action rpgs at this point.
>rehashing the same game over and over again on a yearly basis
>incapable of making a new IP anymore
>rely on marketing and reddit-pandering aesthetics to cover up the primitive gameplay
>use celebrities to draw in normalfags who don't even usually play video games (katy perry and post malone for pokemon; george r.r. martin for souls)
>no stories, characters or settings worth a shit, even though they're supposed to be making a rpg
>newer games can't go five seconds without reminding you of the older games (is that... THE ASYLUM DEMON MOVESET?! KANTOOOOOOOOOO!)
>games still sell like crazy and get inflated review scores on brand name alone
>fanbase is a bunch of shit-eating cultist drones who will slurp all of this up, screech at you if you dare to criticize it, and refuse to play all the better series in their respective genres

lmao they really are mad Elden Ring overshadowed Horizon. Elden Rings quest design isn't even bad it just requires you do SOME thinking.

The user experience is the same as previous titles yet From's games continue to get more and more popular. Have these people considered that they're the ones on the wrong side?

All their avatars look exactly like LinkedIn profile pictures. "Look how 'professional' I am, tee hee." No soul, no imagination, they probably go to bed in their business suits. No wonder western games lack excitement and awe; these are the people making them.

The kind of job where you put trannies in the game?

Yeah, it can be cryptic and hard to remember what you're doing, but it also feels more interesting that way compared to the guided checklists in most games

>game studio offers a different user experience
>WHAT ABOUT MMMMYYYYYYY UX DESIGNS
>THE ONLY UX THAT SHOULD MATTER IS MINE DESIGNS

when the fuck is every retard in this fucking industry have gotten so narcissistic

I feel crafting in this is just meant for emergency supplies/items

Thats the only time i've used it so far. Like "oh fuck no arrows better craft some"

Elden Ring and other Souls sequels had far more effort put into it than GameFreak's entries pre-Arceus. What a horrible comparison.

crafting is only there for some specific builds. I'm probably never going to use it though.

>combat animations are hard to read
>NOOOOO THEY DON'T HAVE A HUGE RED FLASH THAT TELLS ME 30000000 YEARS IN ADVANCE THAT THEY ARE GOING TO ATTACK AHHHHH NIGGERMAN SAVE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

What a tremendous jealous faggot LOL

This "UX should follow set rules" mindset is why games feel so soulless and samey nowadays.

Yes elden ring is clunky in that regard but it completely fits the game.

I blame big tech for pushing out the idea of internet privacy and security. dont really blame them, its unfortunately the environment we live in. people shit on you for not having your actual photo up, which of course who gives a fuck but its just amazing to see how much internet safety has been flipped on its head

People want games that play themselves. It's been that way since 2007, and my guess is more than half the current gaming populace started playing after that, so it's no shock

Should post the second part too

These people complaining about it are all guilty of producing games that all feel the same. They copy each other, move off to other studios and call it 'standards'. Dumb niggers ruined video games, we need more unique experiences that push all forms of design.
