If you completely removed the open-world aspect of the game and just stitched together the sections where the actually interesting stuff happens, would it be a better game?
If you completely removed the open-world aspect of the game and just stitched together the sections where the actually...
No it would be significantly worse
The open-world part is actually appealing.
If the game was better designed, sure.
lol no, exploring is the best part of the game and bosses have crap design compared to ds1-3
yes, you can apply this for any game
ahh yes, I love wondering about for 20 minutes looking for the gameplay.
Why do the bosses have bad design?
they are inconsistent
you can no longer actually punish
positioning means jack shit anymore, just cheese with magic + spirits or memorize the roll roll attack lookup table
How have you even managed to do this? I have 66 hours in the game and not once have I felt like I am just wandering about for 20 minutes doing nothing. There is a lot of shit in the game.
Yes some shit is rehashed, and there's the 50 crucible knight variants that make bits of it a shit chore, but generally it's pretty good.
Agree with this though. They tried to make magic relevant by making bosses have tiny punish windows which makes things (like crucible knight) fucking boring to fight, and things like Rykard and Radahn are just awful terribly designed fights that are best to cheese.
Yes, the open worl dis shit and for all intents and purposes full of nothing but shitty filler.
>roaming trash mobs that don't give anything
>ruins with crafting items
>flowers / animals
>copy paste catacombs
It's trash.
because every boss spins like a top and and has delayed swings that read inputs
Maybe he means finding actual fucking things to go and not randomly roaming around taking screenshots, picking up flowers, and killing zombie fodder.
yes
the open world is boring witcher3 shit
legacy dungeons are the only good part, but too easy.
Sens Fortress or even Anor Londo1 is 100 times better than anything in Elden Ring.
exactly this, Dark Souls 2 (biggest Souls game) has a shit-ton of different areas, but at least they are all engaging and aren't separated by a giant field.
but I haven't been doing those things
No
I don't think so. The open-world makes the legacy dungeon feel much better.
The open-world contributes to the world and the sense of scale greatly
There are lots of neat things to see and do in the open world.
No
Wait a month or two so braindead DaS3 rollspam babies actually learn the new mechanics
Also wait until all the items are found and people can actually plan build routes, the open world will be amazing for this
So how is it compared to the other Souls games? Good variety of weapons? How's it run on Xbone?
Anor Londo is fucking trash apart from presentation
Yeah, open world is stupid big for the most part
What you're describing is the game we're already playing
no, but the game would be significantly better if the open world was used for more than it currently is (sense of scale and wonder)
more of that lord of the rings feel where youre setting camp and the journey isnt so easy and free (just warping around anywhere you want at all times, resources of any kind dont matter except rune arcs and thats a complete different thing, time of day and weather conditions are almost irrelevant on the grand scale etc etc). It shouldve done more with the overworld to make it just as attractive on its own as the legacy dungeons and "points of interest"
more roaming monsters with actual rewards, systems like night or rain affecting more, special worldstates like an eclipse/ darkness/ whatever that affects things A LOT (a bit like gravelording and worldstates in demons souls but even more) and honestly increase the improtance of factions and overworld "activity", the game actually does have conflicts happen but you cant really ever end up on "one side" of the fight because of how the game works, its just a setpiece with a bunch of enemies fighting eachother instead of being pinpoint focused on the player
>Sens Fortress or even Anor Londo1 is 100 times better than anything in Elden Ring.
i 100% agree
i'm almost done the game(only 2 more bosses), and fuck, so much gameplay is just wasted time
explore useless areas
run arouns on the horse
fight trash mobs
it's starting to get repetitive
Don't forget the copy paste dungeons.
I like this game despite the open world design, but I'd rather all the effort spent here was just used to make DeS2 with like 9 locations instead of 5.
