Every normal player, regardless of the genre, will help the new one, explain what's going on, and the producers will give easy or even story mode, where monsters die just at the sight of the hero (because the player cares about the plot, not grinding characters for 2 weeks and learning everybody opponent's movement just to walk another 50m in the game). You will find all this everywhere except in souls likes. By playing these games, you get irritated, pissed off, you throw a pad and insults, for the negligible joy of defeating your opponent in the thousandth attempt, only to meet an even worse one around the corner and the wheel looping around. Say something bad about any souls like title. You will be scolded, spat in the face, and in the end they will say that you are a lame, and souls are games for real players, because there are challenges in it (because other games do not give challenges after all, and all this is story telling). Do you like any game of the genre? Do you want to learn more about the stories or just visit interestingly designed locations? You must deserve. You have to mentally fucked by the producers, because they made a masterpiece. A masterpiece that no boor has the right to admire. You will be told that it is great that such games are, that they fill niches, etc. The truth is, however, that they created (a genre) some strange club of self-proclaimed elitists who pat each other on the backs and rub their ends in the break between sessions.

The games being "hard" is all they have going for them, if you don't like fighting the slow clunky controls and learning enemy attack patterns then the game really has nothing else to offer you, the lore is always shallow and told through small shards of text, there are no real characters to gravitate towards due to the aforementioned lack of a real story, and they're not very visually appealing although that's my opinion.
They're basically just a game for autistic losers who think bad control schemes and grinding are fun, same applies to Monster Hunter.

I played some of DS1 but quickly got bored and then watched lore videos to see if I should keep going, if the world is as interesting as it looks, and that was when I knew the community behind the games was retarded, there's barely anything there in any sense.
I didn't care for the level designs either, while I can appreciate the way they loop back and connect, it doesn't have an actual flow that feels believable, it very much feels like you're playing a game, personally I want to be immersed and those games simply can't provide that.
