Did Smash kill fighting games?

Why are fighting games so dead? Street Fighter 2 was a cultural phenomenon. Nowadays street fighter has less players than random pajeet shovelware.

What went wrong?

Elden Ring killed fighters. Come play a real game.

sf5 is a legitimately garbage game

Nah fighting games killed themselves by routinely launching starved of content, with the bare minimun ammount of characters, stages and modes and then milking people dry with a million dlcs

In the ps360 era, fighting games came out easily with double the ammount of content than the average fighting games this last gen.

street fighter 5 is a dogshit game that killed the franchise and sent it into complete irrelevance. sf6 is looking a lot better so it has a chance to revive it.

Nobody plays smash either

now post tekken

>Smash
You mean Brawlhalla

I still have faith that MultiVersus will beat Brawlhalla

Most of the fighting game community is on playstation that's why the numbers are so low on PC. Plus the netcode for SFV is dogshit even with it being crossplay.

>Space Jam 2: the game
Yeah no

I hear this cope all the time but Tekken has 5k on PC and that's considered the inferior platform.

lmao

Fun fact SFV only had a higher player count than Tekken in 4 occasions in its entire history

Holy shit. MOGGED.

Smash has even more players than Brawlhalla though

Yeah but Tekken is actual bots. Even when steam went down and all games reported 0 players, tekken was the only game with 4k concurrent players.

Possible since it at least acknowledges its competition.

Hang yourself schizo

>lose a game of league of legends
>blame your team
>lose a game of fortnite
>blame rng
>lose a game of street fighter
>blame ...yourself?

the genre is simply doomed.

There is actual proof though

The game relies on meme power more so than space jam and it will be free so it will at least not suffer as much as Nick Brawl.

>Any Forums can't shove their latest shovelware against Smash Ultimate after NASB flopped so now they have to pick on easy targets like Brawlhalla just to make themselves feel better.

That's just wrong and it's crazy that you still hear it so often. The first version of any fighting game SF3 came out with 10 characters, SF4 with like 20 I think. SFV came out with 16, that's not a significant departure from how it's always been.
