Define "unexpectedly." Do you mean a side character that broke out? Because while I prefer her Hilda was definitely not as popular as the likes of Bernadetta and Lysithea, who are probably better examples. Or do you mean a character that withstood the test of time and became more popular later after the initially popular lot were kind of forgotten? Also I wouldn't call it unexpected when she has some very obviously attractive traits.
Hinoka has never been that popular considering her 'major character' status. Any popularity she has had was gained by riding the back of Camilla.
