Actually I have find some good VN's that challenge Torment's story. I have recently finished The House in Fata Morgana, and I can safely say its almost as good and the unexpected part is that both share some similar parallels

Honestly I think I would have preferred it if Nameless One was just a goofy idiot trying to get laid all the time like he was supposed to be. The story as it turned out is cool and all but I really don't give a shit about tragedy. Tragedy bored the shit out of me. I don't really need to be reminded that life sucks sometimes lol, I'm alive, I get it.

But it's not the same in the case of Planescape Torment. You can simply run from all the enemies from the last area and talk the last boss into killing itself.

I think that the correct answer to what to do in art is to seek the masterworks, rather than the right medium. Planescape is dogshit as a video game and a devastatingly mediocre piece of genre fiction. If 20% of the movies you've seen are masterly you must be fluking into some excellent stuff. But then the fact you consider plot essential or important at all tells me you don't get it at all.

If you're into plot-heavy media and just consider the medium to be an interchangeable delivery-service I'd recommend manga. It's the ultimate pop-media format for a balance of accessibility, freedom for the artist, and room within the industry for diverse expressions and interests.

Check out some famous titles from a few different genres and you'll probably find Planescape thoroughly mogged by their ability to engage in harmony with their medium rather than despite it. Also probably better writing on top of that.
