People are still making 8-bit pixel art games despite it being nearly 40 years later. Open world games are going nowhere fast.

BotW melted everyone's brains.

its now ironically cheaper and easier to make
why craft several well-made levels when you can just make a big empty playground and throw down a couple junglegyms and trick people into thinking its full of countent
60 hours worth of gameplay!!!! (20 hours of recycled quests, 20 hours of walking around, 15 hours of shitty cutscenes and 5 hours of actual unique content)

Gonna be hard when open world basically needs zero experience in level design to shit out a game with

Same except it's waiting for the "pretending soulsshit is good" meme to end

>Gonna
It's already like this

Already happened, check out elden ring

souls is like fifa, just the same slop served up over and over and over again

The thing is you don't have retards saying every other game should play like fifa

Skyrim ruined gaming

>zero experience in level design to shit out a game with
Well yeah, what he said.

when you feel confident enough to sing bohemian rhapsody and then you actually "sing" it out in public

probably because of retards like my friend who outright refuses to play games unless they're open world.

Open world isn’t a meme. The more open-ended games are the better, games are only going to get bigger and start implementing procedurally generated content when the tech is there to do it convincingly. Elder Scrolls 6 will probably be a big leap forward in this regard.

>procedurally generated content
please no, God save us from this

openworldshit is just realismfaggotry and people play videogames to escape from reality not to try emulate more of it. Also it just makes all the games become generic because there's only so much you can do from within the muh you see that mountain you can go there template gameplay-wise. you paint yourself into a corner creatively

Minecraft is the biggest game of all time. If AAA devs could do the same thing with modern graphics they would already be doing it, bit by bit they’ll get there.

BotW and Elden Ring are escapism though, it’s easier to get lost in a game and have your own memorable experiences the more open-ended it is. If it’s more linear then it will be the same every time no matter how good it is. Even Ocarina of Time had open world elements, just on a smaller scale due to tech limitations.

>then it will be the same every time no matter how good it is
I'd rather spend 20 hours on a good, memorable, unique game that has focus and purpose than grinding away for 100 hours on vapid open world busywork bullshit. Plus you can get replay value out of emergent gameplay with games like Deus Ex. Of course that involves dev teams of people with actual talent, something that the modern gaming industry is completely devoid of.

sorry user, open world has never truly been tried before Death Stranding

>memorable experiences
drop the marketing mumbo jumbo. skyrim had memorable experiences but that was more down to the music than anything. the actual trudging around in openworlds is anything but memorable moreover the same thing applies about having the same every time once you've uncovered the fog of war for the first time since discovering the world anew is the one and only trick the openworld pony has to offer. once you've seen it, the mystique vanishes and it's just a mundane chore, which says a lot about how much of a gimmick openwroldfaggotry is. BotW had to resort to hiding hundreds of "amazing" seeds, to try spice it up.
