30 years later I still play snoic 1 sometimes, its a game where improving feels really good because it really makes a difference when you see a veteran play versus a newbie, when you know what you are doing and where the boot monitors are and you can fnish the stage fast and without getting hit having over 50 rings for the emeral minigame it all feels very rewarding, you can pick it up and start having fun right away there are no boring slow introductory stages like in other platformers, sonic is almost arcade like and this applies to all the genesis games.

Checkout sonic 1 forever it use the the 2013 christian whitehead engine and doesn't require a genesis emulator just make sure to supply it with the sonic 1 rom itself

Personality wise, sure, but the actual quality of the games, Mario blows Sonic out of the fucking water and teabags him repeatedly. Sonic games swing for the fences and try a lot of absurd shit, while Mario games just hyper-polish and slowly add to what is already established.
I say that as a Sonicfag, the creativity is leaps and bounds over Mario but that alone does not make the games better.

I never liked it.
Grew up with Nintendo. Seems like Segas franchises were always inferior. They had inferior platformers. They never had anything like Zelda.

Or Final Fantasy.
Or Dragon Warrior.

The Genesis versions of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat may have been technically better, but nobody cared. It was all about the game play, and Nintendo won every time.
