my vague understanding is that there is this queen goddess marika and her children are the 5 demigod main bosses in the game. marika had this powerful thing called the elden ring and lived up in this temple in the sky. for reasons i don't understand, she disappeared, the ring broke, and the sky temple shattered (all of those chunks of building you see laying around the world are from her sky temple). her demigod children all have a piece of the elden ring and are supposed to end the chaos caused by the shattering by gathering the other shards and becoming the new god (elden lord). however they've failed to accomplish this so now the undying tarnished have been enlisted in hopes one of them can overcome impossible odds and become elden lord themselves

With the presence of scifi and the "two fingers" actually being two giant fingers, I am going to assume the "Elden Ring" was some kind of planet or advanced technology civilization like Halo. But aliens invaded destroyed the ring but also got destroyed themselves, leaving weird scifi technology to mix into whoever is left of the ring. And the civilization on the ring was some sort of hyper advanced nordic civilization
