Why is Minwu there but no, Ricard, Leila and the other party members?
>call shit game a filter to feel better about the time you wasted playing a shit game
Classic
it's a filter because it's fucking garbage
Literally nothing wrong with Final Fantasy 2
It's a great game
this but no one will admit it, the sheer hubris
My only problem with 2 is leveling spells is kind of a chore.
What's the best version of it?
Tried PSP but it was so easy I dropped it
May as well just play the Famicom original then, because the PSP version is the same as the GBA version which is the same as the PS1 version.
the best versions of 1-6 to play on a television is the pixel remaster, one should only look to other options if they want a portable solution
He's not actually looking for the "best" version, though. Look at his post. The PSP version was the previous best version and he dropped it because it was too easy. He wants a hard game, and the only way he's getting that is the original.
just play the new one, lots of qol, looks fantastic on a huge tv
only bad thing has to be the font, but it would be autistic to nitpick a font
Really? Then why the fuck does everyone complain about this game being "too hard" and the "leveling system is broken" if they're all so easy? I assumed it was just the PSP version
X-2 is a stronger filter.

Watch this. It goes into detail about how everyone's a goddamn retard regarding this game.
Are there any rom hacks/mods that fix all the problems with the skill system?
>Fastest way to increase HP is to just have party members attack themselves
>Checks HP at end of battle vs HP at beginning, not overall damage taken
>Levels of enemies don't affect skill increases at all; you can just stay in the low-level areas and grinding is just as effective as it is in high-level areas
>No point in using different weapon types when swords are always the strongest and fists keep scaling up, eventually beating even swords
stop grinding you blithering faggot
>Fastest way to increase HP is to just have party members attack themselves
>Checks HP at end of battle vs HP at beginning, not overall damage taken
Fixed in remakes
>Levels of enemies don't affect skill increases at all; you can just stay in the low-level areas and grinding is just as effective as it is in high-level areas
Just don't grind
>Fastest way to increase HP is to just have party members attack themselves
That's actually wrong. All you're doing there is making no progress while you grind HP up and no other vital stats. The same amount of time spent beating yourself up to raise HP could be spent progressing the game and getting the same amount of HP naturally.
>Levels of enemies don't affect skill increases at all; you can just stay in the low-level areas and grinding is just as effective as it is in high-level areas
Enemies have ranks, and you get much less EXP from fighting lower rank mobs than you do higher ranked ones.
>No point in using different weapon types when swords are always the strongest and fists keep scaling up, eventually beating even swords
The strongest weapons are usually axes until near the end of the game, where the strongest two weapons in the game are swords. There are reasons to use other weapons. Bows can attack from the back. Knives and Staves don't have magic penalty. The game gives you weapons in a staggered way that even axes or swords might not be your strongest weapons at hand at any given moment anyway.
The ancient sword is the secret best weapon in FF2. At least in the pixel remaster. One hit of it will always curse an enemy, both decreasing the damage they do and increasing the damage they take, making even the final boss a complete pushover.
IF you can hit with it.
>spend the entire dungeon trying to level up my spells
>reach the boss and have no MP to cast spells with
>boss is virtually immune to physical damage
excellent gameplay, bravo
It's not even hard. I liked it, but it's not as good as the first.
Personally, my favorite versions of these two games are the gba versions. What about you guys?
one of those games that did cool stuff but is shit to actually sit down and play. like kane and lynch 2. the original famicom release was pretty broken regardless of any design choices.
No it wasn't, stop parroting youtubers and bad reviews.
1 & 2 are just different flavors, idk
i can't pick a favorite
>reach the boss and have no MP
Sounds like a (You) problem. Leveling up should be done on the world map, or if you must do it in the dungeons, go back to an inn or tent and recover before taking on the boss. It's just common sense...
why do dungeons have rooms where there is nothing in them?
>smack myself in the face
>wtf my face hurts bros
monster closets are just a small poke for choosing incorrectly the way forward, sometimes there's good shit in them
SaGa games are just FFII but better.
>he doesn't use magic while travelling because he might need it later
I bet you also save those rare elixirs and stuff and ultimately never use them
>I bet you also save those rare elixirs and stuff and ultimately never use them
Yeah that's true I guess. These games are always super easy such that I never end up using even a 10th of the resources they give me. Need to go back and play these games again but try and nerf myself by using magic and items in dungeons as you suggest.
Played 1-8 so far and a little bit of 9. 2 is probably my second favorite after 3 or at least tied with 5 and 6 for second. That said I'm not big on JRPGs or Final Fantasy as a whole.
