Where do I get started with the Atelier series?

Use your brain, if you have one.

>wants to play atelier games
>has a brain
Pick one.

no legal way then which is why I asked.

Ryza and Ryza 2. The rest are just standard KT Kusoge.

When will atelier go open world, the game is too limited for me to have fun

is it even translated?

Mana Khemia 1 and 2
They strike a wonderful balance.

Rorona plus or DX. Starting with a later Atelier is like starting Disgaea with 5. The lack of QoL changes that came with the later games makes it harder to get used to the older games mechanics

Do you even know where you are?

Rorona -> Totori -> Meruru -> Ayesha

Drop the series afterwards.

>buy game from Japan
>buy Japanese PS1
>play game

You can add the optional step of learn Japanese.

so what you are telling me is I should start with an untranslated not available for purchase game in a series that has english entries.

dusk

Rorona Plus/DX has a ton of QoL. If there's any Atelier easily available on current platforms that's a bit lacking in that, it's only Totori and even so not by much. They're still seventh gen games, they have fast travel, speed increase toggle, quick saving/loading, detailed item sorting and filtering (except Totori) and so on.

Dumb koei release the fucking arland trilogy in english phisically aaaaaaaaghhhh

It went open world and it was the worst performing game in the modern franchise.
Given, that wasn't because of it being open world, it was for a lot of other reasons, but they are unlikely to go back to it because of its association.

You don't speak Japanese, you don't know how to emulate, why the fuck are you still here.

Plus and DX are 99%/100% the same depending on what game it is
I think the only change I noticed was they moved a super end-game chest to a different area in meruru

>Rorona Plus/DX has a ton of QoL.
Yeah but I don't hate OP that much to recommend vanilla Rorona. He can play earlier Ateliers too, but I can't help him in that regard.

Try one of your favorite boorus.

It was cool but it's probably too hard to sustain with their quick development cycles. I still don't understand how they made Firis in a year when it's so much bigger than anything that came before or after and while also making Blue Reflection and Nights of Azure in the meantime.

underrated post

I thought this post was implying that it's better to start with Rorona Plus/DX because starting with, say, Sophie will make it hard to go back to it afterwards, which I don't think is really the case. Of course the original Rorona can be ignored, you'd have to go out of your way to emulate it or find a PS3 copy over DX.
