Pokemon has not always held their Direct with all the new announcements on the same day as Pokemon day (sometimes it was a few days before that), hell, they didn't even hold it yearly in past years
With PLA releasing just a month earlier, the Digimon people may have thought that a Direct wasn't coming for Pokemon this year
