Too much blurring in post processing

people no longer hire based on talent

Too much detail which means you memorize less of it. Started with 7th gen games like Gears of War and Uncharted.

Higher graphical fidelity = more time spent drawing and scaling and detailing everything according to the increasingly ridiculous demands of graphicsfags, which leaves less time for actual style work, where they make the game as a whole look good instead of just the textures.
It's part of why we don't have working mirrors anymore in games, the graphical demands are just too high for rendering a whole room + player twice for a "benefit" from developer standpoint of 0.

less geometry -> better anti-aliasing
and good graphic design

your screenshot looks bad, modern games look way better.
meds, now

Average programmer is of lower quality than what it was 10 years ago. This is because the demand is so high that even a shit tasting primate gets hired for 100,000k

They don't have more graphics tho

They put too much to into realism over aesthetic appeal.

Because modern games are afraid of looking "gamey", when they want to be art kind of like movies are.

Imo modern game graphics are fucking retarded. Either too much detail to things that don't matter and just make the game run shittier or game looks like a movie, making it harder to be immersed. AAA studios spend millions and millions to this shit but can't hire decent game designers. And if they hire decent game designers, they playtest with people who don't play games while making a game fundamentally for people who play games.

Back in the day when being a vidya programmer wasn’t a proper career, devs used to have another profession such as being musicians, graphic designers, etc… that’s why old games have more artistic value than modern ones.

Bigger dev teams, shorter deadlines, less quality control.

> when they want to be art kind of like movies are.
lol, of course not, gamers started bitching at games not looking realistic while not being willing to buy a new console every year.

lack of good art direction and a lot of times games end up looking better when specific settings are turned down or off altogether.

No soul.

Phototextures have always been the patrician choice.

Because you gay faggots spent a decade complaining about how grey and brown everything was, remember? Now every game has to look like Far Cry New Dawn Horizon to appeal to you faggots who want your games very pretty and colorful.

soulless uncanny valley hyper realism

basically removes art direction from the equation and it also makes everything look like a blurry mess
there's also probably some kind of uncanny valley thing going on

Because the PBR meme was forced onto the industry before hardware got powerful enough to hand ray-tracing (which PBR requires in order to look like shit).

because developers forgot what artstyle is and focus instead on hyperrealism

Which MP is this?

What you described was idiot developers slapping on a filter and calling it a day. There is nothing wrong with adding some colour. Graphics should've stopped improving ten years ago.
