This happened to me at 24 and I'm 32 now and still hate games but kept coming here

in their earlier years people generally have less responsibility. we're more willing to fuck around exploring virtual worlds for hours on end, collecting everything there is to find. once adulthood hits, that stuff tends to get thrown out as you get to the meat of the game as fast as possible.

I started playing short retro games last year and that practice saved gaming for me. Everything else is just a checklist, or a pure timesink.

This hurt to read but it's true. I replayed some favorites last year, they were still good but I wasn't willing to mess around and experiment with the actual game worlds anymore. It was pretty much a straight shot from start to finish. Meanwhile as a kid playing Wind Waker I would spend hours just sailing the open sea and charting islands. It'd see that as nothing but 'wasting time' nowadays.
