Due to a cry for help, Klonoa is teleported to Lunatea, a place where 4 bells keep the emotional balance of it's inhabitants.
He meets popka and Lolo, a priestess in training, who only got her recognition thanks to Klonoa's ring and wind bullet ability.
During their adventures they're guided by master baguji, a prophet that tells them where to go, to collect the 4 stones of emotion .
Further into their travels however, they meet Leorina and Tat, Leorina copies Klonoa's ring to collect those same stones, shocked by Leorina's ability to harness Klonoa's wind bullet power, Lolo finds out that Leorina is a very very salty priestess, and intends to lift Lunatea's veil to reveal a fifth bell, "sorrow" which Lunatea's inhabitants refuse to see because sorrow hurts them, so they live in denial.
They travel to stop her, but too late, she rings the bell and all hell breaks lose, The King of Sorrow reveals he was that cry for help and only wanted the people to accept sorrow again so that he wouldn't have to be the only one to experience it.
Klonoa rings the bell, and all of Lunatea are no longer in denial. End credits reveal the head priestess with a happy king of sorrow.
