Phantasmagorias have their place in the history of the series but I genuinely hope that ZUN will never make a new one ever again because they're terrible single player games.
They don't even have good dialogue, only the last 2-3 stages do. The rest of the game is literally just a couple of meaningless filler lines per stage.
If he wants to make a new non-standard mainline game he should absolutely focus on a new type of gameplay. One that's actually fun to play in single player/story mode. Maybe a single screen boss rush game where you have to deal with REAL patterns.
