It's really a tie between this and mario rpg for that period. Big character sprites, simple story, relatively light difficulty, good music. Perfect for kids. Final fantasy vii is up there for the same reasons but with the addition of being a graphical leap for most kids/teens of the 90's. I know. I was there.
