Sweetie, we’ve had the leak of DP for over a year now. Everyone who’s wanted to try it for themselves has already seen what a fucking mess the game was, and all of the salvageable shit (like boiced lines and characters) was repurposed to SFA to the point where even the puzzles are the same. You’re not new or clever for jumping on the “MUH HIDDEN GEM” bandwagon now that we’ve all seen how far Rare had fallen by then.

This. It felt like it would have been among the weaker rareware games on N64 if released.

Besides setting a bad precedent for the series going forward adventures was a critical and financial success at the time so I have no clue what you're thinking. For a game that wasn't even anything like star fox 64 it still sold really well

If Rare's Microsoft-era didn't already vindicate Nintendo on not keeping Rare, then honestly, Dinosaur Planet and SFA did. Rare lost their groove BADLY in the new millennium.

they were starting to either rush out games out the door or take too long for underwhelming experiences, SFA managed somehow to be both. If you think SFA is just a "mostly intact" straight port of DP you're out of your fucking mind, SFA isn't half the game it was supposed to be, and the other half was replacing whatever remnants of DP there was into garbage barrell puzzles.

The leaked beta of DP showed how much of the original game was intact for SFA. Story, characters, and levels got mixed around but the core game is still mostly there so I do think you can judge the quality of Dinosaur Planet somewhat from adventures.
