The game covers the origin story of garland and his master classes seem to be based off of the abilities of the bosses in other FF games.

The lufenians are giving me behind the scene villains vibes. We see in the final trailer that when the black crystal breaks, darkness seems to spread and that would initiate the cgi sequence where Garland slaughters everyone.
