People say it's because it was bad, but when something is bad, this board can't shut the fuck up about it for years. It was just a pretty decent entry in the series that was more enjoyable after the first island holding your hand the whole way.

because gen 8 came out and ruined the franchise right after. 5 was the peak of pokemon, 6 was a shitty cash in, 7 was an improvement over 6 and at least tried to do some stuff different, then 8 was a pure dumpster fire in every way.
-Managed to include a gimmick worse than megas or Z moves that made pvp completely unplayable
-hideous visuals with n64 textures
-can't catch 'em all despite the 3ds models all being future-proofed (people thought they did this for the eventual transition to true 3d/next gen consoles, they badly lagged the 3DS games) and gen 8 mostly using tweaked gen 6 models anyways
Sword is the last pokemon game or piece of pokemon merchandise I will ever buy.
