It was X-2. Just look at X-2, all the issues XIII had, started with X-2.
XIII is not "the beginning of the end" it is the fucking end.

Fucking hell. At least 15 could have been good if they made it a full game, instead of requiring you to watch a fucking movie to get full context, and even then half the game is missing.

The game has good vibes, I truly believe it had potential to be one of the best FF games, if they managed to get their shit together.
Also:

>as a result almost all people I've talked to who are not speedrunners of the game have never ever bothered to use magic even once outside of the mandatory section.

X-2 was released in the golden age of the PS2 where risks could be taken for franchises before they entered the land of HD and over the top budgets. X-2 was a sequel game and it did okay. More aimed to girls but boys liked it also.
Tldr: it was insignificant to the franchise overall as it was a SEQUEL not main line. Xiii on the other hand...
