I miss when game journalism was made by nerds who loved games and would tell you if a game was worth your money, not rabid mouthpieces with sociopolitical agendas purchasable by the highest bidder and giving every piece of dogshit a 7/10 score because it promotes an idea they align with.

i miss print media

Yeah, people actually had to think about the shit they printed because there was limited space and you had to put real effort into it to get it past an editor.

How many cubic meters of old magazines are rotting away in your attic?
Untouched since at least 10-15 years ago.

Print magazines had their time. It's ogre.

I had every issue of N64 magazine, future publishing were the best at that time

Just read Edge.

Edge is perhaps the only exception. I bought issues of Play and PC gamer recently and it's pointless as it's shit you already read on the internet and no real journalism

This magazine was nothing but seethe. Don't let the apparent soul cloud your judgement. Every fucking UK games magazine was a rag.

New magazine day was like having xmas every month!!!!

>history is more fun if you remember it differently
All these mags' "journalism" was paid for by the publishers of the games being reviewed.
Most of us weren't retarded enough to give more than an unintentional glance at the review scores.
These magazines were used for previews, strategy guides, cheat codes, and eventually the included demo disks.

Not independent magazines like OPs, they were just full of shitty proto clickbait and people who cared more about trying to be funny than reviewing anything or covering news.

I wish i could go back. I always loved the drawings and images they put in the magz. It had so much soul.

i purview them still, they take me back
dumb zoomer, shut up when you're talking to me.

NGC once described F-Zero GX as "harder than Ray Winston in a steel top hat and tails", and it has stuck with me forever since.

Woah, an anti-emu seethe from the previous millennium.

>independent
lol, ok
They were only "independent" in the sense that they didn't claim to be directly owned by a major publisher. Their actual independence was heavily linked to publishers' willingness to share content with them.
If you read any of the shit they called reviews then you're probably on the spectrum.

I don't read it cover to cover any more, mostly just read the industry news and look for the hidden logo, but I keep my subscription up because it's still head and shoulders above anything else.

In a day and age where every shitty Ubisoft game gets 8/10 and above despite being more formulaic than a Pokemon game, it really makes you miss the times when reviewers had real opinions and something at least remotely resembling integrity.

I miss the edgyness

No you don't.
The reason it doesn't exist anymore was because it didn't sell.
Shut the fuck up.

Playstation Power was based because they had girls with boobs
