Graphics whores are the worst thing to happen to videogames.
There's nothing wrong with games looking like this.

There have always been graphics whores. They are untrustworthy people.
Bad graphics is only bad when the art style is poor
this
This is their field models so PS1 wouldn't shit itself in the game. In battle their models looked like this
This
that's because they pass the silhouette test with flying colors.
There's nothing wrong with them looking better either.
and yet, they were able to make FFVII in 2-3 years of work.
Today we cant even make the first city of the game in five years.
he's got toasters for hands
true
Cloud only had this model for his final standoff with Sephiroth.HVDJA
You stupid fuck the models in combat are much better. It's not an artistic choice. They couldn't run them outside of combat for performance reasons.
>looks better
>levels are more linear
>there's less content overall
>filled with microtransactions and DLC scams
>takes 100 times more to make
fuck off
I grew up playing final fantasy and quit the franchise forever when it feel for the low poly 3d meme
I remember a survey carried out by the industry years ago that basically proved this. Most gamers apparently care more about graphics than they do gameplay or story.
Yep. I remember even back on the NES some games were criticized for having "bad" graphics, but they were still fun anyway. They tended to be fewer too since the best graphics were on PC and getting games to work properly back in the 90s was hell.
And I find whatever the fuck term there is for you idiots juvenile and uneducated. I have never heard a good technical analysis on video game technology from an aggressively "graphics whores!" shouter.
this
I really wish video games didn't blow up like they did
>can't
Won't. They could have remade the entire game if they really wanted to but they're planning to milk this shit for the next 20 years.
>Model back then took a weekend to make
>now a single model needs 6 months to be finished
ok retard
I just want the game to look good, poly count and texture res be damned. I love ff7s chibi models.
>>levels are more linear
SInce when games need to be open in other to be good, retarded zoomer?
What kind of analysis do you want? More polygons don't necessarily mean better game.
Graphics have always been a priority. Its only recently that millennials started with their nostalgia for retro games.
>DOOM is an open world
kys retard
You don't have to spend 6 months working on one model. You could make one faster if you really wanted to.
priority to console manufacturers to sell again a new console generation.
retard
nah it looks like shit
i take sprites any day over shitty 3d
this is low poly done wrong
an AAA model takes at least a full week of effort without any animation made.
You can shit out FFVII models in a single afternoon.
Never change, Any Forums.
Bullshit, people were nostalgic for 80s games by the 90s and it's been like that ever since. You just don't hang out with people that old.
Doom is not linear.
>Style>>>>Graphics
compare DOOM level layout to any modern shooter.
FF7 overworld models looked terrible even for the time. This was offset by the battle models looking pretty good for the time
GFX nonsense really started after that riddick game with the lighting shit.
I didn’t say they weren't nostalgic about them! I said nobody was actively playing or talking about those older titles in a meaningful way anymore; at least not as far back into the past as we are now.
They'd be too busy being all excited about how great modern gaming is to pay any attention to something from twenty years ago.
That's what you're doing here: acting like there isn't anyone who loves this stuff anymore when obviously plenty of us do. There may well have only been two hundred players on Earth during my lifetime but they've got to know someone else who did play
I wonder if 3D artists ever stopped to wonder if they were going too far when they found themselves adding in the stitching and denim texture to a 2D cartoon's overalls.Fidelity for fidelity's sake.
Back (back because i dont have any friends lol) in the day i had a friend who solely judged games based on graphics.
He thought xcom was a shitty game just because it had bad graphics and he even mocked me for it.
Those specifically look disgusting.
I was still trying to get my head around the idea of a game without graphics when I heard something that made me feel even worse.
You can't play this with just your mouse and keyboard, right? It's got to be on an actual controller or nothing at all! That means you're going out there in front of people who have never seen anything remotely close to what we've been doing here... And they'll laugh their asses off because of how bad our stuff actually is!! This will totally ruin everything for us!!!
Compare Doom's graphics to the shooters if its time
>he says posting a graphic-whore game
The only thing I can say is that it was all very well done, but not quite what you'd expect from someone who had spent years studying animation at Disney. And now he has gone on to produce his own works of art – animated shorts with an incredible level of detail, such as 'Walking Distance' (a film about how people deal with grief), or 'Tinker Bell'.
Or perhaps this one: The Nightmare Before Christmas . It looks like nothing else out there; its characters are so lifelike that they could be real.
DOOM graphics are basic, they're just 2D sprites.
Look, you heard a word and parroted it, but that's as far as your interest goes. It's essentially aggressive ignorance, like some guy who gets annoyed that with cars car hobbyists talk about technology instead of subjective experience.
The player has a limited amount of ammo and health for his weapons; if he runs out of either one then it's game over (as well as death). A DOOM game is also called an episode because the episodes were released in batches, with each batch containing several levels.
If you want to play them all at once without waiting months between releases there was only ever going to be one choice: buy Doom II on its own or wait until Doom III came along later that year!
Compare it with the shooters of its day
That said...I guess I can't really blame people for being interested in the tech side. You're right: this is just another step up from what we have now—the difference between riding on top of an airplane versus sitting inside one.
But if you want to call out those guys over there talking shop at the bar while they drink their beer? Well, let me tell ya something, buddy.
We are not gonna get anywhere by pointing fingers here! If anything, that'll make us even more useless than before.
"You graphics whores!" is babby's first attempt at sounding smart, just like edgy centrism or religious agnosticism.
There's a point where graphics improvements makes sense and there's another point when graphics needs 500 people working 7 years to craft the same experience it took 10 people a year back then.
I'm a graphic whore? I thought she meant my name was too long to fit on the screen and they had shortened it for me. But no, that wasn't what Babby said at all: It sounded as if we were going into business together!
That would be so cool. We'd have our own little company with offices in some swank loft downtown—maybe one of those converted warehouses where artists used to live back when there was still art being made.
But wait...
I don't know, I think that most of my generation will be able to get their hands on VR headsets in 2-3 years from now so maybe we'll have some interesting experiences by then.
But even if you are right about how long games take today compared with 30 or 40 years ago (and yes they do) - why is this bad? Do we need everything yesterday all the time? Is this what our society has become? What happened to patience, delayed gratification... etc.?
you can stay in the '90
Making a detailed model today takes less effort than it did 15 years ago, because the technology has gotten better. Same goes for everything. With Luddites we would only lose.

there is no need to worry about that. There are still some things which will take longer: A good book or film; an excellent meal (I don't like fast food); and sex with your beloved wife. I'm sure you can think of something else...
And now let's see what happens when these three worlds collide—or rather come together in one place: The Internet!
What does this mean? It means that everyone who wants access to information from any source at all may do so easily on his own computer screen without having to buy expensive books and magazines first.
then why games back then were made with 10 people in a year and we now need 500 people working half a decade?
>nobody was actively playing or talking about those older titles in a meaningful way anymore
There's this board on Any Forums called /vr/ where people do exactly that.
