It's alright. I understand why people don't like it. This game desperately needed more Pokemon battles with trainers and some more things to do other then constantly catch pokemon but it still wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either.

I've never played BOTW and only played Legends of Arceus. This game is just Okay, Dude. Don't start blaming BOTW or any other open world game just because this game didn't live up to it's fullest potential. It's good just nothing amazing.

Changes like catching Pokemon in the overworld and being able to toss your Pokemon in to battle with the same language you use to catch Pokemon really is transformative. You can see a Pokemon off in the distance, start running toward it, select an appropriate match up while moving, then enter a battle without going through menus or transition screens. You can physically run from battles, you can start heading to your next destination while opposing Pokemon faint. These are all fantastic changes. I can't say the game is much better beyond these changes though, this is just a solid template for a much better game in the future.

I’m gonna be fucking mad if all I can do to personally beat up Pokemon is throw bags of herbs at them. Do you get actually attacking options later? If not, why act like you’re going to learn sumo from the boss man who fist fights Pokemon and then only give you thrown weapons?
