Gonna play this soon. Can you guys give me any general tips?

play on normal first or hard if you are gonna copy a build from the official forum, don't play dominating unless you have previously finished the game and really enjoy min/maxing it
Play on Normal, and do scrutinize most advice given that most of it is given by veterans that have forgotten how to be bad at the game.
If you find yourself against groups of enemies you can't kill effectively then don't hesitate to use grenades. Frag grenades are the best and the maximum deviance that something can be thrown at when you miss it is about 3 tiles, so do try to aim exactly on the tile where the enemy is and hope for the best.
Your equipment locker in SGS (in your room) also has a rathound leather armor that's easy to miss because it's very dark and meshes with the inventory background, equip it to have an easier time against the rathounds.
Don't over-diversify in your skills, it's better to be really good at several skills than to be mediocre at many, not just for how you do your damage but also for skill checks and gates like dialogue options and crafting. You can put about 5 points in 8 skills every time you level up (IIRC you get 40 points per level-up)
Don't take the psi pill unless you actually intend to go for a psi build, or you'll have permanent -25% health.
Normal and oddity
Stealth helps a lot in early game. If tou are stuck, don't rush and observe.
Molotov and its variations + caltrops will carry through most encounters
HAMMER WIZARD
Snort
Specialize in a damage dealing weapon/psi. Don't go jack of all trades build.
Use grenades, caltrops, bear traps, everything at your disposal
quit
this game blows ass

Didn't know this, thanks.
Why oddity and not classic?
Should I put points into traps and throwing?
read up the stats on the wiki. stuff like dex lowers the action point cost of light weapons and you need like 5str to use basic assault rifles. just basic stuff you can learn without fucking up a character since theres no (official) respec

You don't need to follow a build guide, but builds are the most important aspect of the game. If you don't want your ass served to you on a golden platter than go on the wiki and read what each skill and attribute does, then look at some related perks. You will likely have to restart at least once if you aren't 300IQ.
The game itself is really good, except for the last area.
I've started a few days ago and it's a blast killing everything in site with my knife
>throwing
yes
>traps
around 30
got the Expose Weakness feat yet? you'll need that
I have my int and will on 3 so no
bummer. keep a shock knife if you find/craft one, normal ones don't do much to robots and tincan enemies
oddity is the intended xp gain
>Why oddity and not classic
oddity is painful on a first play through, funny do it. tldr it's RNG xp, it's fun but not for a first time where you can fall behind easier for missing lockers n boxes where the xp bits are placed or if enemies drop them at all.
Save often
holy kek
good luck my friend, you will need itkek
a little bit of psi is good for a sniper build
>3 int
My condolences
