I have been playing the game for about 3 years and you're right. High level play in fortnite does totally look ass and is a sure way to get motion sickness, so don't play like.

Back in your day you played powerpoint games with everyone looking like triangles with faces, and every one of your precious boomer games were broken beyond belief, which is why they're featured as 90-95% of the games played during speedrunning events like AGDQ. Because every last one of them could be easily broken and glitched to completion within minutes. You hold them dear in your heart out of a mix of nostalgia and the fact you were easily impressed by garbage back in the day since you had no alternatives. Now go yell at clouds, you sad old geezer.
I think for some time it was very skill based. That was until the meta became hiding in a box while the zone pushes in and saving mobility to get around terrain. If you want to be a "pro" fornite player just memorize how to build a box around yourself really fast, have decent aim and then you are literally capable of winning tournaments. It's actually crazy how building was what separated the good from bad when the game was newer to something that prevents good people from killing bad people now
I'm a grumpy boomer, but I've gotta be honest, some of these fortnite kids are fucking insane.
That's kind of related to how building works. I don't have the math ready on hand but I think each building starts at about 10% or so health and slowly gains health with the speed based off the material used to make it with wood reaching max health quickest but having the lowest max health. Also the blue screen effect allows you keep some level of sight on a target without them quickly throwing up a wall to break line of sight and attack from a new angle.
Key point I should have stated earlier. If any of this sounds dumb it's because it is. BR was basically an inhouse mod of the PvE mode while itself was still in beta so BR is a copy of a beta that haven't changed it's core gameplay in years.
