How do we stop Steam's anti consumer monopoly?
How do we stop Steam's anti consumer monopoly?
there's more than one marketplace there, that's not a monopoly
A monopoly only exists if:
A: The state is backing it
B: It effectively exists due to nobody liking the competition.
As Steam is the B category, they would need to become significantly shittier than the competition.
Is anyone offering the same value to customers as steam?
>as long as there are a bunch of non-viable token competitors, there's no monopoly
>mobile is 25% even though it releaseed months after PC
What is this image trying to prove exactly?
is a monopoly when you actively fuck over and or buy other business, like google
it cant be a monopoly when you can get everything for free via the pirate bay
>egs
>4,7%
Too much, should be 0%
>anti consumer monopoly
Yeah, Valve should be brought down for introducing the toxic exclusivity practice on the PC platform. Oh, wait.
>EGS greater than GOG
Epic drones are obnoxious
Don't buy anything on digital "distribution" platforms. If a physical edition of something doesn't exist, it doesn't exist at all.
It's not a monopoly, you subhuman, illiterate piece of trash. To be a monopoly, people would literally have to have no other choices.
>we have to stop Windows as the only viable platform for gaming
>why yes, everything needs to come out on steam, I will boycott any other store
CDPR are niggerfaggots and they deserve to die.
>66%
So it's not monopoly you absolute nigger, go check how monopoly status is calculated
make better alternatives.
by not being shit, EGS shill
What exactly is anti-consumer here?
Steam:
The only platform that has all new releasing pc games day one
The only platform that doesn't sell my data to chinks
The only platform that has a good design
The only platform that is not invasive at all
The only platform literally built for convenience first
i guess not being ardent defenders of steam anytime an EGS thread pops up would help.
So monopoly is okay if it is comfortable.
Why are you like this, Tim? Can you not help it when you are blown out of the water when people don't want to use your repurposed fortnite launcher to buy games and made it worse when you explicitly decided to be anti-consumer and extremely pro-publisher?
Yes
china bad
usa good
Not him but unironically yes. You also need to have an altruistic leadership, akin to monarchy. With those two traits I am okay being subservient to their authority.
Steam was never a monopoly because all the biggest games on PC that have the most players like Minecraft, LoL, WoW, Fortnite etc were never on Steam.
People making this argument think they can just ignore that because they don't like those game or whatever
Monopoly? Like the video game? What do you mean?
There's a difference between having a strong market position and having an illegal forced monopoly.
When I buy a game from Steam I can easily run it on my Windows tablet, my Mac laptop, my GNU/Linux gaming PC, and soon my Steam Deck.
When I buy a game from EGS, it really only works on my Windows tablet. Epic has no one to blame for Valve's "monopoly" but themselves.
Open source devs have already made a better multi-platform version of Epic's game store. Only reason Epic won't adopt it and release games for GNU/Linux is they're in Microsoft's pocket ever since about 2009.
LoL used to be on Steam.
It did? And?
i remade the chart, but just with PC distribution
>anti consumer
How did EGS benefit customers?
Other market places have to be able to compete with steam in a real way for CONSUMERS.
The average consumer doesn't give a shit that the developers get an extra $5 if you buy it from epic instead of valve, they care if they pay $5 less, all while being feature complete with the steam store.
In short, in order the end steam's "monopoly," competitors have to offer a user experience that offers ALL of the features steam has, and then it has to offer something on top of that to make it worth switching from them.
>6%
Odd, some other indie dev was saying it was around 1%
Steam doesn't go out of their way to try and make other services worse.
Valve are too lazy to bother doing that.
Compare Steam to Epic Games;
>Steam doesn't tap into social data of other competing launchers
>Steam doesn't buy exclusive rights to titles to prevent them from launching on competing platforms
All my games are already on steam and I don't want to transfer unless it means I get to keep those games on the other account. No, using two different accounts for different games is not an option.
same here
Yeah, I agree, for you and me, that something that would be required that make us switch would have to include duplicating our libraries.
Is it reasonable? No, not particularly, but as a consumer our price does not have to be reasonable.
Obviously the solution is to create another platform via the funds from a game laden with heavy microtransactions, then try to blantantly force our way into the industry with timed free downloads and arbitrary paid exclusivity!
>A monopoly only exists if:
>A: The state is backing it
Since when?
>monopoly
It’s only like that because everyone else tries their own irrelevant garbage instead of just doing Steam2.0, just rip off steams core design and then have sales on alternate products not currently on sale on steam and you’d create a viable competitor but no everyone goes; “exclusives help push consoles so it’ll help our storefront” forgetting that 90% of of gamers already use steam and you’re not in some competitive launch race to make some 50/50 choice like Xbox Or PlayStation. You’re entering a market already dominated because they were the first and only one there, it’s like if Nintendo existed by itself in the console market until last year, exclusives wouldn’t mean shit because they’d just ignore it until they had a switch version
proton will rule over gaming in ten years
They should make it so that you could sell game saves
