It's literally the main reason i bought a PS4. It's perfectly fine for a remake, plus it comes with the original game. My only gripe is that they didn't include Medievil 2

Gameplay is almost the same with some QoL improvents.
Framerate is shit, drops even on a pro, but it's still better than the original.
Enemy AI is slightly fucked, "restored scripts" broke some enemies, especially zombies that don't react to being hit (they staggered on the psx). Still playable.

Ehr, it looks nice but I pretty quickly realized a large part of my love for Medievil was nostalgia. The level design is not that good, the movement and physics are wonky and the camera is on crack.
There exist many far better 3D platformers but maybe not as many horror-themed 3D platformers. Honestly not as fun as I remembered as a kid.

It runs smoother, it has native widescreen and it keeps the original artstyle which I prefer over the PS4 remakes.
That being said my PSP's CPU was overclocked at the time so I don't know if it runs that smoothly without it.

I'm wearing nostalgia goggles because I loved Medievil 1 and 2 as a kid but I'll try and be objective.

It's ok.
I think if you loved the original games you'll enjoy this.
If you never played Medievil, unfortunately by now you would be used to much better adventure 3D platformers.
If you can get it free or less that 5$, by all means. Otherwise you'll find it's pretty antiquated.

Somewhat off-topic: If you like the Medievil games, check out Pumpkin Jack. It's been ported to all current platforms, including Switch, and on PC it actually has ray tracing if you want a little more oomph for the graphics.

it's ok if you view it as a novelty "old game in unreal engine!" kind of thing. it's serviceable
but honestly the general art style and presentation isn't appealing so I still go back to the original game for my yearly playthroughs

I had always heard of MediEvil but never played it. I got the remake for 20 bucks on Black Friday and I fell in love with it a few levels in. Love the OST in particular. As soon as I finished it, I played the original version and I thought it was just as good, if for different reasons. Best Sony IP and one of my favorite vidya of all time. I try to play it around Halloween every year.
MediEvil 2 and Resurrection are both fucking shit, I hope 2 gets a PS5 remake that fixes its problems
