When is everyone going to finally admit that a targeted 30fps for specifically video games is becoming pretty dated at this point, no matter what you're playing on, unless it's some kind of very specific design choice to go for lower and not some "graphical fidelity or complexity being too high to maintain 60fps" design choice? Do you think 30fps targets will be completely gone by next gen if it's considered the secondary option most of the time for this gen if either one of the options even goes below 60fps at all? Will overlapped console lifespans guarantee a 30fps target forever? I personally think that a higher framerate changes the feel of and improves a game quite a bit more than slapping a fresh coat of paint on it, but that's me. I'd prefer ps3 graphics with a buttery smooth and instantly responsive framerate than the most beautiful game out now at 30fps. What do you think and what are your opinions? Discuss.

I don’t give a fuck at all about frame rate because I’m not autistic.
30fps with bfi is just as good as 240fps.
You don't give two shits about the number of frames, it's just the clarity of the motion.
I genuinely cannot tell the difference between 60 fps and 24, I was playing minecraft a bit ago and only noticed my frames improved from 20 to ~55 when I pressed F3
>When is everyone going to finally admit that a targeted 30fps for specifically video games is becoming pretty dated at this point
Gaming started out at 60fps and stayed that way for decades, then the mid 2000s happened. 30fps was never in date and is completely unacceptable.
I was fine with gaming at 30 fps for years and never understood the point of 60. Thought it was a big meme and that you couldn't really notice it.Then a few years back I got a better computer and started to game at 60 fps. Literally cannot go back, as soon as it drops to like 57-58 I notice it and it makes me mad. I had it so good as a 30 fps pleb who didn't know any better.
1080p 60fps should be standard. Nintendo especially should try making actual consoles again.
I guess I came off as a little more passionate than I truly am, it doesn't make or break a game for me, but it's so noticeable that 30fps has this "jagged" feeling that is for me almost completely gone at 60+fps. I just don't see why anyone would want to make that their cap anymore. All these companies and people cum and fart over rapid "SUPER ULTRA 8K 6 GORILLION PIXELS FOR ONLY $2,500" advancements in resolution for decades and are just now saying "hmm, I guess this makes a difference too..."
when are we going to admit playing games on anything bigger/heavier/more power hungry than a portable device is pretty dated at this point? Discuss.
I'll admit I don't fully understand the difference between "clarity of motion" and the number of frames according to you because they have felt completely connected to me. Higher framerate = the smoother and clearer the animations I'm viewing are, with less overall movement between frames to make it feel a little less "jittery"? no?
I’m not a graphics whore so I don’t care about a game being high res I just want it to be fun, I never have noticed the difference between 30 or 60 fps but I’d still prefer a smoother game over a choppy one if it comes down to graphics versus frame rate, but like I said before I don’t think I’ve ever played gamers where I noticed a bad frame rate unless my machine was lagging somehow
Look up strobing/BFI. Blurbusters even has a demo if you have a high refresh rate monitor.
That's due to microstutter.
>Gaming started out at 60fps
Not PC gaming, we were playing Doom at cinematic 35 FPS if we were lucky, Quake was sub-20s. Those were the times.
60fps on a CRT looks better than 144hz on flatescreenes
fuck I miss CRT
the human eye can't see past 30fps
Doesn't everyone already agree on that? Has there been any 30fps games on PS5 or XSX?
ok boomer
I find that building stuff like that with portability at the forefront sacrifices overall computing power and even sacrifices the performance of their own hardware due to usually being suffocated as fuck and therefore temp throttled or underclocked out of the box. Squeezing a lot of powerful parts into something so incredibly compact isn't worth the money or tradeoff to me. I'd rather have my dollars go directly into performance and longevity rather than paying a super premium to carry it around. If I'm ready to play a game and want to play a game, I'm 100% of the time relaxed and at home, ready to sink some time into my hobby/passion. If I'm not home, I'm obviously too busy to game, or my free time is so short it'd be dumb as hell to get invested in any type of game that isn't some shitty app on my phone to burn time. I even own an okay number of handhelds and they've never left my house and I play them at home plenty. Also whipping out your portable console is kinda cringe as an adult in public. I already try my hardest to not look like an antisocial autist in public.
it will happen to you
Easy - I need my game to render at least as fast as my display can show. You have a 60hz display? You need 60fps. 120hz? 120 fps. Does anyone have a 24hz or 30hz pc monitor? yeah, though so.
I'm a boomer myself and 3d games look like shit on CRT
no they don't
you probably think that cause your tubes all worn out
the ps6, ps7, ps8 and ps9 will all target 30fps, because normalfags only care about having the most graffix and devs cater to them.
BFI at 30Hz is seizure inducing
Not really, if you can get consistent frametimes then it will be the same, I highly doubt you launch modern games on CRT.
>When is everyone going to finally admit that a targeted 30fps for specifically video games is becoming pretty dated at this point
They did, at the start of this console generation
b-but muh 35 year old games, that blocky ass sprite you're looking at looks like a BLURRY ASS SPRITE on my CRT!!!!!! Modern games also get this incredible enhanced blur benefit. Bet you wish you could do that with your 70 pound appliance, huh?
30fps has been unacceptable since I played pic related.
"30fps is becoming pretty dated, which is why we optimized all of our games to look their best with a 30fps cap, but now we give you an incredible new power: turning the settings down on your new game on your new console"
dumbass its about the frames blurring cause of shit g2g times
you need backlight strobing umlb to get the same result on flats
