90% of my complaints are objective design flaws. I just put them in digestible meme format for bottom feeders like yourself. But I see I mislead you into thinking this is a shitpost and not actually reading it.

It is worse because it was the last chance for the franchise to be great. They had the talent, the tools, the IP, and they pissed it down the drain with a half assed experiment. The western games have a handicap and can't stand on the shoulders of the first three games, and we all accepted that before they even came out because Team Silent wasn't involved. SH4 had potential to be the best (and scariest) game in the series and they fucked it up monumentally.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say Origins is better than SH4. It is at the very least more fun to play, and it actually takes place in fucking Silent Hill.

Siren didn't get mainstream appeal because the game is overly cryptic and a puzzle / stealth game filled with borderline instant kills.
Fatal Frame was fairly popular in the PS2 era but mostly just was too repetitive to really be interesting as a whole series

I like the idea of Silent Hill 4, it has some interesting concepts and ideas at play. Your home and sanctuary being corrupted. The claustrophobia and voyeurism of spying on your neighbors and the outside world. A touch of agoraphobia. It just butchers the execution at every possible step that everything I could conceivably like about it in theory goes out the window. Surprised nobody has actually tried to pick up the pieces and do what this game tried to do proper and with symbolism/subtext on par with the first three games.
