I like him. I think he's informative while having a fun sense of humor that matches my own. I always liked the patreon shoutout raps he did, they were goofy. Hope he posts more game videos and doesn't go full into his music stuff.

His The Last of Us 2 video was shit and missed the point of the game completely.

Aside from that I like him

His main complaint was that the game doesn't give you enough video-gamey choices and goes against it's message of "revenge is bad". Like you are on this revenge mission to get back at someone for killing your step-dad, but you kill hundreds of people along the way creating more potential orphans. There's no choice for a peaceful run-through.

I think it's a dumb take because not every game needs to be an RPG choose-your-own adventure. You are playing a character and going through their story. Ellie kills a shitload of people in her story, and I'm playing her story. Not my character in dragon age origins or some RPG.

Every so often he provides some good insights but his prose is incredibly memey so it's hard to take it seriously

i like to watch him lot of his vids are really good and enjoyable, has a unique style with editing

Some suspension of disbelief is needed where I feel a lot of people compare movie games to actual movies as it pertains to character development. I felt a similar way in the new Tomb Raider games where I'm supposed to sympathize with Lara feeling bad about killing people when you go through the game killing hundreds. Or Uncharted where some deaths are supposed to have weight when you are mowing down swaths of enemies.

It's hard to look at games from the same lens because of course you aren't going to have a game where you only kill 1 or 2 enemies throughout the entire game.

However, you illustrated yourself why the story doesn't work, unless your argument is that "the story wasn't supposed to work"

I think his main issue with it was that the story and core conceit were propped up as the major selling point of the game, but both the narrative path and the gameplay seem to actively work against each other and leaves people like me feeling disappointed because the writing took characters and a gameplay setting not fit for moralization and tried to make some "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" shit out of it...while managing to shit on the entire first game in the process to huff its own fart juice.
