I like character action games but dislike DMC and Bayonetta

I used to think that I disliked character action games except for a few outliers, but nope it's actually pretty much every one except DMC and Bayonetta. I like all of them except for the ones most people think are the peak of the genre. Revengeance, MadWorld, God Hand, The Wonderful 101, Ninja Gaiden, all of these are fucking great. Masterpieces even. DMC and Bayonetta, can't get into em. They just don't feel that good to play.

I really like the first Devil May Cry. I forced myself to finish DMC2 and I just can't seem to get into DMC3 no matter how much I try. I liked Bayonetta for the most part, but I don't think it's one of the best action games of all time or whatever.

It's weird how it works.

I consider DMC3 to be the best the genre has done, even with it having some shitty bosses and a lot of enemies that are annoying or boring to fight. Meanwhile, Bayonetta, the later DMCs, Revengeance, and so on are all simply worse at scratching that itch.

DMC is more for the combo lovers and jugglers

if dmc's mobs weren't a joke, the game would be a lot better. so far, the best thing about those games are the boss rushes + multiple character styles
i've setup different button layouts for each character and boy it's fun af. specially royal guard dante

God Hand is the peak when it comes to 1v1 fights. No character action games as you live to call them have a boss fight that can compete with Azel in the finale or Tiger Joe

that makes me want to ask, does bayonetta do anything different/better than the DMC series does?

Wonderful 101 is one of my favorite games of all time but it's a little frustrating how close to perfect it is.

I got into action games recently.
I've played and finished God Hand (well, I played that one years ago), Metal Gear Rising, Devil May Cry 1,2 3 and 4 (playing 5 right now), Assault Spy and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1. Of those my favorite is God Hand followed by Ninja Gaiden Sigma. The Devil May Cry games are good (except for 2 which I found to be awful) but every single game has a flaw or flaws that keep them from being great.

Dropped Sekiro (too hard, couldn't beat the final boss), Shinobi PS2 (I couldn't get into it but I can see myself giving it another try), Transformers Devastation (same as Shinobi) Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae (too barebones for my taste) and Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus (plain dogshit).
I've also played to completion some coomer acton games (Onechanbara Z2 and Origin, Valkyrie Drive) and they were mediocre at best.

I refuse to play Bayonetta and TW101 because I absolutely loathe forced minigames and Space Harrier.

I like DMC and dislike Bayonetta. The newer DMCs are boring for me as well. They seem to have lost their identity just like a resident evil.

This
They doubted themselves too much, they thought they needed variety when all anyone wanted was just core gameplay. That seems to be Kamiya's problem in general

Yep. It's the most Kamiya game ever made, for better and worse.
I pure plated 101% on Wii U but stopped after completing 101% on PC. I just couldn't get myself to slog through the shooting sections again.

>I like character action games but dislike DMC and Bayonetta
Then you literally do not LIKE character action games.

Just because it started the genre doesn't mean it has to be good
I listed five other games that I liked. That's more I like from the genre than I dislike.

>>Dropped Sekiro (too hard, couldn't beat the final boss)
Really? I never got to the final boss, not because of difficulty but just because I got really addicted to TBOI, and once you learn to parry the game's pretty manageable. Ninja Gaiden's way harder imo

I hate talking about these games with the general public and Any Forums because they always say some dumb incorrect shit and then at the same time call another games combat, in this example, Nier Automata, to be "revolutionary" lmao.

Therefore, I don't give a shit what you dislike or like because you're just another casual shitter who hasn't even scratched the surface in any of the action game you deem to be good.

I finished God Hand on hard, kms, no damage without savestates. Try me.

>at the same time call another games combat, in this example, Nier Automata, to be "revolutionary"
who the fuck thinks N:A's combat is anything special?
I say this as a person who considers it one of their favorite games
The combat is serviceable. It works. It's not gonna blow your dick off and the game as a whole is way too easy. It's smooth and it works but it's not what I'm playing the game for.

There are people on this very board that think Genshin Impact's combat is the best thing since slice bread and Genshin Impact has less combat depth than fucking Dynasty Warriors. We have in the bad timeline user

Oh yeah, Genshin Impact's combat is terrible. It's actually not terrible, it's perfectly fine, but unlike Nier:Automata, Genshin is a service game that wants you to keep playing for as long as possible. Everything in the endgame is based around the combat, and the combat just isn't deep enough to give a shit for the hundreds of hours the game wants you to put into it. It's why I quit playing, and in hindsight I never should have started.
