It wasn't really in state of needing to be "saved" (after all, the long-term trajectory has only gone up, at least following the demise of Loki Entertainment in early 2000s which represented an early golden age), but it's clear that Valve's recent investment in projects like Mesa, X.org, Linux, DXVK, Wine and others has been a huge boon at technical level, and that Steam Deck has afforded them the leverage to negotiate solutions to, for example, handling various anticheats.
