Is a index still worth it?

Is a index still worth it?

Will the new version be wireless or something?

Not really.
It's not bad by any means. But, it's just very expensive for fairly old tech at this point.
VR still has fairly large leaps between generations. And it's expected that the next generation of VR is a year or two away. It's not really worth dropping 1000 on something that's going to feel pretty dated in a year or two from now. Unless you have an excess of money.

Not with that quality. There was a prototype on the most recent big VR fair with a laser tracking the headset but that's probably fsr from going commercial.

I got mine exactly a year ago and I'm very happy with it though

Is it still "old tech" considering the viewing angles, 144hz and resolution?
>not really worth
Hmmm i guess

Which gpu do you have? Considering instead of getting the index, first upgrading my 1080 to a 3080

the best VR buy right now is a second hand vive for $350~ (+$30 facerest replacement since you don't want that second hand). it's only a little bit more expensive than the quest 2, and you're not locked into their ecosystem and have an upgrade path when index 2 or something else comes out.
or just wait for the index 2, but be warned, I hear the index 3 will be even better.

The only thing that Index really has over other headsets these days are the controllers and the FoV. The resolution is quite low by current headset standards. The lenses are nice quality though, so, you notice it much less and it can even look better than some higher resolution headsets simply because of this.

The problem is it's hard to compare it to "Next generation" headsets because nobody knows exactly what they're going to feature. There's the Decagear which seems more and more like a kickstarter scam as it's taking forever to actually release, but, it basically defeats the index on every front, and is half the price.
If the other manufactures headsets are in a similar spec to the decagear, then the Index will be left looking very outdated in a couple years.

Thanks anons, i might just wait a year or two and in the meantime upgrade my pc to be run vr in the futur

here's a spreadsheet as well if you wanna compare current and upcoming headsets docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1f2xHQJrrp0A_9xNTeY9in4HvbqUyHT8tuq9qkwIcwGg/edit#gid=1835320775

Cheers

the tracking/controllers are still very much the best there are
but the HMD is decidedly last gen resolution wise. the g2 brutally mogs it in visual quality (but loses slightly in FOV)

if you have a relatively weak gpu (3060ti perf or lower), its probably the best compromise for people who aren't willing to go with the quest2
its much, much worse value for money than the quest, but without needing to get cucked by the Zucc.
its 100% suboptimal for sims and porn, the g2 is much better for those usecases

>decagear
>90hz display
>inside out tracking
meh

Yeah i have a 1080

>lower resolution than the quest 2
>muh framerate that can only work full on 3 games because FPS or UPS caps
>expensive as fuck and hard to get due to scalpers

Nah..

>>lower resolution than the quest 2
wait the index has a lower res than the quest 2??

>index is 1440 x 1600
>quest 2 is 1832 x 1920

oh lord

that doesn't seem like much

yea, in that case its a decent compromise for you
you won't be able to run games at quest2/reverb g2 resolution anyway
and in the future, when you upgrade your gpu, you can look into upgrading the HMD and keeping the controllers
the pimax headsets work with the index controllers by default
the g2 can also be made to work with them
same for the vive pro 2 and the new varjo hmd
hopefully an index 2 with better visuals will also come at some point and will also work with current controllers

so, basically, if you can afford the $1k price, go for the index

fuck no, I have one sitting idle on my desk 24/7 because VR is uncomfortable as fuck. only games I can play comfortably are racing games or half life alyx because it lets you play fully seated by simulating crouch. last fucking thing I want to do at the end of the day is stand around sweating waving my arms around and killing my back playing this bullshit after a long day.

if you're some zoomer aged tranny who wants to get your female pretend on then yes go for it get your fully body trackers and play vr chat like all the other faggots that infested this medium and ruined it

Imagine being such a failure at life that standing will cause you bodily harm.

You're a pathetic fat fuck. What kind of condition do you have to be in to not be able to handle standing up.

Unless you're really into VR I don't think dropping $1k is worth it at this point. Quest 2 is supposed to be dropping their Facebook login requirement this year so you could hold on buying a set until then. If you end up liking VR then you can upgrade when the next gen of headsets start dropping.

The quest 2's resolution for its price was its big stand out feature.

I have a 3070 and everything runs fine

i was thinking about it but i just got the quest 2 instead. the index is way overpriced for something that came out over 2 years ago

I can deadlift 3x my bodyweight.
