I feel like one of the worst aspects of people who need video games to be considered art is the constant putting down of some video games in an attempt to raise up the ones they consider art. It's like this backhanded acknowledgement that most of the shit you play isn't worth anything, but THIS video game is good because it made you feel sad.

Imagine if someone told you that they liked a movie because, unliked Thor 3, it was real art. Yeah, Thor 3 couldn't hold a fucking candle to this TRUE KINO. They'd sound like an idiot.

I don't need to go into the specifics of some marvel capeshit to say it's at a lower level of artistry than, I dunno, Stalker. Do I need to explain? Do I need an hour long video essay to extrapolate the intricacies of why? Fuck no.

I'm saying that no review or analysis of a work of art would spend half of it's time bringing up something it doesn't consider valuable.

So much of film, photography, and art in general is dedicated to producing literal pornography. We don't stop every paragraph to talk about how the composition of a photograph is impressive because some photograph of a pair of tits isn't real art. They're able to speak confidently that the art they're discussing has merit.

If the only way you're able to explain to me that Stalker is a good game is by comparing it to a bad movie, I don't think you're doing a good job of making your case. It's fucking absurd to bring up a superhero movie as proof that something else you like is inherently better. Just explain why you like the thing you like using reasons contained in the actual thing you're discussing is what I'm saying.
