Why weren't Sony's handhelds successful?

PSP: Too much soul
Vita: Not enough soul

they simply had no games

PSP had a decent library.

Vita was a straight shitshow, I'm sorry. It has its defenders but it was definitely not a platform for everyone.

Piracy

Psvita needed better games better controls and better marketing or at all released at a diferent time

what the fuck do you mean? PSP is as popular as DS back then.
Vita is where they fucked up.

Overpriced memory sticks killed both.

PSP sold more than 3DS

vita was rejected by jp devs

PSP was absolutely a success. Vita failed literally because SCEA just didn't even bother with it. With no north American support, Japan was less incentivised to produce games for it as well. Also they gave MH to Nintendo which was definitely the nail in the coffin.

They were the worst options on the market for their respective generations.

no games

psp: very easy to pirate
psvita: shit library

i wish it could make a comeback but corpos now are pushing game streaming so why bother

psp was better than the ds

PSP was a success though
Sold as much as GBA

PSP was a success and had good support from Sony. Vita had 0 support from them after year 1 and only had weebshit after that. Also you had to buy a memory card that costed as much as a brand new game, and the biggest killing blow is that Nintendo locked down MH onto 3DS.

A number of factors including expensive proprietary memory sticks. Nintendo also fucked the Vita and it had to have been calculated
>3DS is $250
>Sony meets that price with the Vita
>Immediately after the 3DS is like $125 or some shit
>Moms shopping for little Timmy's new electronic babysitter see the two prices next to each other and collectively say "fuck the Vita"

>PSP
But it was successful. Didn't sell something like 80mill? And sales aside, it has a great library.

>Vita
Sony abandoned it too quickly, which is a shame, since the hardware is actually really good, even when taking proprietary memory sticks into account.

The original PSP is the only non-Nintendo handheld ever made to actually be a success

That said, the drop from PSP to Vita is catastrophic

Sony said "The big PSP games were generally 3rd party, they can do the heavy lifting on Vita and we'll just get our license money" but 3rd party devs said "We'll wait until Sony puts out some killer 1st/2nd party titles so there's a good install base to market to" and so nobody made (enough) games for it.

>better controls
Vita objectively has the best controls of any handheld.
