I have fond memories of playing this game as a kid and decided to try mystery dungeon dx. Holy fuck is it ugly to look at. The artstyle and 3d cutscenes completely butchered the atmosphere. Just look at this retarded totodile. Remastered OST is the only redeeming quality.

I emulated it the other day actually. Some Pokemon one shot me so I quit, it was pretty boring up to that point anyway.

Because it has an actual story and copies the gameplay of Rogue/Angband which are not only the originators of the Rogue-like genre but also a vast improvement over the combat of the mainline games.

PMD up until exploreres is basically "What if Pokemon but good" and the mainline kiddies couldn't tell what a good game looks like if you hit them over the head with one.

Just play Explorers ROM hacks.

Sadly not even that. The HQ uploads of the originals on YouTube are still nicer to listen to for me than listening to the remasters.

I agree the remake doesn't surpass the original OST but at least they kept the feel mostly intact. Same cannot be said for the graphics.

The teambuilding is slightly more fun, if remarkably overpowered

It sucked me in immediately.
I've seen some images of the remake, and while the watercolour backgrounds look pretty, it still just doesn't look right, especially with the vacant-eyed models. pixel art gets away with static models because you mind fills in a lot of the blanks.
Nothing can replace the original game for me, it's look, story and charm can not be beat.
