Why did it succeed?

So it's just another FF13 then.

No world map

>PS4 exclusive for 1.5 years
>EGS exclusive for at least another year
Don't worry, Steam will save it.

>paid 3 times for exclusivity
so square made a fuck ton from this game i agree.

>>>>>fail
this shit succeeded and i eagerly await part 2

It was advertised as a remake when it was actually a sequel, also it's not the entire game so many people are probably waiting for all of the parts to release before playing it.

what failure, Barry?

5 million copies in 4 months and SE still managed to report a profit for 2020 despite the massive losses from Avengers due to 7R selling well

yikes

cope

Fans wanted everything from the original game to stay exactly the same, but with better graphics. This was impossible because the act of changing the graphics was going to change huge aspects of the game. Let alone changing from an anime to a 'realistic' style, adding full voice acting, changing the combat and everything else they did.

All that said, the developers full on said the original FFVII fans were not their target audience. They wanted to use FFVII Remake (like XIII and XV) to bring in a new audience. Basically, they were pulling a Disney. Replace the loyal fans with the casual/impulse gamer. It's great to see that it didn't work. Most of the people who bought the remake were the die hard FFVII fanboys. But they're probably not going to buy Episode 2. Both because they changed everything fans like and because it's episodic. And casual/general gamers won't either. So Episode 2 is where it's going to fall apart.

damn you must be the CEO of facebook or something to know what people wanted and did not want

only 5 million in 4 months is pathetic in 2020 for a AAA FF
SE mentioned 7R and Avengers in the same breath. And 7R is still at 5m after nearly 2 years.

>the developers full on said the original FFVII fans were not their target audience. They wanted to use FFVII Remake (like XIII and XV) to bring in a new audience.
...no?
they said that they wanted to bring something new and familiar so it aims at both original and new fans. Dont be retarded.

>damn you must be the CEO of facebook or something to know what people wanted and did not want
Or just read the reviews and the endless threads about the remake when it came out.

Financial success for Square, failure for the fans of the IP. Like all FF games in the last two decades and most AAA games as a whole. It'll keep going on until you guys wake up and stop supporting it.

it wasn't even a financial success and they still refuse to give sales updates for it while giving nier automata sales updates every few months
even ff15 gets sales updates more frequently than 7r or kh3 combat

nomura released two stinkers that outside of their launch sales completely died off

>it wasn't even a financial success

got proof?

Soulless meme remake.

It probably was a success because of all the exclusivity deals. But true, we don't know exactly how much money they got for those deals.

Instead of focusing on the financial details (which Square will never release) people should instead look towards the unit sales. It's really sad that the remake of "most popular and hyped FF game ever" couldn't surpass the sales of FFXV. One of the most hated. It's very similar to back on the DS days how Final Fantasy IV remake sold half as much as the Final Fantasy III remake, despite FFIV being considered the fan favorite. It's almost like the hype for FF games is artificial...

woah you are truly a savior bro! everyone's just PRETENDING to enjoy it!

Most people who own it it haven't even finished it.

Took too long and didn't remake the whole game.
