American here, so simple food analogy: homemade cooking vs everything made in a box. Homemade cooking can easily be shitty or unappealing, but something about it is comforting and actually worth coming back to despite the flaws. From a box food is always going to be okay when it isn't set on fire, but that's it: it's always the same shit because it became formulaic and processed through a machine to be the exact same thing as everything else. It's clean, cheap, made to be addictive, but otherwise forgettable compared to everything else.

Small attentions to unimportant details that show creators cared and/or vibes that give off a "I don't give a shit about what anyone says, this is what I wanted to make so I'm doing it" it's why stuff like being able to sit down in a couch in an action game or characters having big boobs in a none porn game in this current political climate are both "soul" to me, they didn't have to do it but they did because they wanted to.
