because the gimmick was strong enough to carry it

completely different target demographic

>sells 100m units following the GameCube's rather disastrous run
Gee I wonder why they'd do that

I do wonder if it helped that it was BC with the gamecube. Maybe consumers saw this as a positive and jumped.

Because the Gamecube flopped hard and it was still competing against the PS2 and Xbox technology-wise. Nintendo knew that competing against Sony and Microsoft in a tech war was a doomed outcome so they went for innovation over specs. At the time, they made the correct decision with the DS and Wii

no one cares. it was an incredibly innovative console with the best games

WIN-WIN

The average consumer didn't give a shit about the Gamecube, they just wanted Wii Sports and a few party games

Because of Miyamoto, as usual. He wanted it to be accessible to as many people as possible pricewise.

can confirm.
the ads lied about the possibilities for new interesting and innovative input methods and gameplay mechanics involving the remote and nunchuck while barely anything utilized it. Just like there were a handful of games that used tbe input mechanics on the wii u, ds, 3ds and now switch.

>best games
Whats your top 20?

Business sense and forward-thinking
While they did somewhat sabotage the gamecube with mini-DVD's, nothing would've ultimately changed if they continued the same strategy as during generation 6.
The 3rd-parties for the most part were firmly in Sony's pocket and Microsoft would have the resources to pursue a specs arms race that Nintendo wouldn't last very long in.

By tapping into a new market using a 'revolutionary gimmick' and focusing on their 1st-parties, they would have an entire market for themselves without competition.

Making competitive consoles like the N64 and Gamecube wasn't working, so they adapted the "lateral thinking with withered technology" philosophy from their handhelds instead.

Apparently, it worked.

That's what the Gamecube already was

How come multiplats usually looked better on Gamecube than PS2?

they were inventing casual gaming and ruining gaming forever so they didn't need the highest end graphics to achieve this.

Nobody cares about specs, it was fun

They didn't, that's just cubekidcope.

It wasn't meant to be a strict gaming system. It was made for get togethers and parties for people to have fun. The WiiU deserved better but scalping fucked them over too.

the wii u had fuck awful games and people need to stop pretending otherwise.

>scalping fucked them over
now this is cope

It didn't have a long enough life for the better. It's a bummer.

For every game that looks better on PS2 there's a dozen Resident Evil 4s or Viewtiful Joes or Sonic Heroes that are even more dramatically downgraded on PS2. That's why I said usually.

People have big boi gaming pc's yet play shit like minecraft and fortnite
Nintendo keeps proving you don't need specs or fancy grafix for a game to be fun

>Scalping

It had 5 years to prove it could have any good games, it had none.

there's just 3, most versions are as good or better on PS2. Factor in the better controller and gamecube versions are extremely undesirable. Really this conclusion you're sharing solely comes from RE4 and delusions brought about by comparion emulators. The Gamecube simply couldn't do the shader style effects that were popularized on the competition.
