It's animation quality for me. The number of games where I press A to open the door, and the character actually physically opens the door, is still too small. All the ray tracing and fancy textures in the world can't help if nobody moves correctly, or has any presence in the world.

Speaking of AI, I remember the official Counter-Strike bot developed by Turtle Rock, having a somewhat lifelike AI that just learnt the map as you played felt like a dream, and it was something that was hugely in demand back then with online shooters being the cool thing at the time and many kids stuck on dial-up. That's the last time I remember ever seeing a publicized effort to make an AI that acted like a real person. Many years later I read an article about some AAA shooter development and they touched the AI topic, the dev said they had actually tried developing AI that applied real life tactics and coordinated to take down the player but that just resulted in frustration as the player got flanked without noticing and got shot in the back; the takeaway was basically that we've reached the pinnacle of how complex AI in a single player game can get for a regular game consumer to enjoy playing it.

Quadraxis is not technically impressive. The Gamecube was a hobbled system, and nothing it did could be technically impressive in a world where the Xbox existed. When you look at something like Ninja Gaiden, it becomes plain as day that the Xbox was practically a 1.5 to the PS2/Gamecube's 1.0, in generational terms.
