checked XRP can easily handle whole SWIFT volume at fractions of a cent, even if half the supply is locked up out of circulation. Also no need for institutions using it to hold any significant amount - no nostro/vostro prefunding. Works exactly as intended. Great for the institutions, not so great for speculators.
