A tongue that's rarely shown at least makes sense for a living engine because those are remarkably thirsty for fuel. It was also likely a desperate attempt to sell the engine as a Pokemon instead of a badly drawn engine. I'm not a fan of it in general from what little we've seen.

Hah, OP, I remember that user too! I think it was after Galarian Linoone was announced for Gen 7, some user mentioned they wanted to really love the design but the tongue hanging out ruined the whole thing...
When we pressed them on how stupid their opinion was they went into a huge tirade about how they hate tongues and any Pokemon design that featured a prominent tongue.
