As a former (over a decade ago) Pokemon ROM hacker who's been out of the loop for a long time, how's the hacking scene these days? Is there still an audience for hacks of older games? Is it even allowed to exist anymore with Nintendo on their copyright warpath?

Also, where do the ROM hackers congregate now? Pokecommunity used to be the hub for hacking discussion but I haven't checked that place in years. I imagine nowadays it's probably all cliquey discord servers or some shit.

Hacking scene devolved into bunch of pretentious fags making the same "difficulty + "QoL" upgrades to FR and Emerald. There's still quite a few good hacks like Unbound and Gaia, tho.
Also a lot of hack developers went into extra faggot mode and uploads their hacks only to their shitty Discord servers. Gross - I just want to play the game not be forced into some "community" composed of fags, groomers, literal children and retards.

Gen 4 and 5 hacking has finally made major breakthroughs but there's nothing made for them that's incredibly amazing, its still mostly difficulty/QoL hacks
Gen 2 and 3 hacks have flourished, there's several great new hacks that have come out and more to come pretty soon
TPC has surprisingly been very lenient, they've only recently gone after hacks again and it was mostly old or discontinued shit
Pokecommunity is still more or less the best place for hacks, the best discussion is probably just here now though, assuming you don't get aggressively autistic GF shills

Name any good gen 2 hacks that have come out since Prism.

Crystal Kaizo+ and Crystal Clear
What's that? You wanted an actual answer? Then go find them yourself you stupid faggot, not spoonfeeding

>Download patch and leave
Is that so hard?

God of Arena

> Crystal Clear

Zir I said good hacks

Fool's Gold

The overhaul slash memehack fags are way worse.

>join
>the entire server is notified of your arrival
>server bot DMs you
>need to read through the rules and react to a post in order to get a role
>need a phone number in order to be verified
>then download the patch

I love fan games and ROM hacks (mainly looking for good story & new gameplay features), they are some good ones for sure.

But I will never, approach or communicate with the discord that is spread around here
I went once, been welcomed as if I were back in middle school with toxic kids (I had just introduced myself at this point)

Despite loving the topic (I want to work with TPC and am comitted to achieve it), I cannot recommend this community, at least not from here

no one cares about a rando joining a discord server and you rarely need to fully register to find the download link you stupid tard
literally name one romhack that's like this, just one

>the entire server is notified of your arrival
Sounds like the real issue for you is your social anxiety lmao

Spaceworld Reforged

Cystal Clear hides the download link if you just joined the server.

You can download crystal clear without the discord server retard I have it on my phone

The diversity removing patch for Crystal Clear only works on an older version anyway. There's no reason to seek out current copies

Current versions have the Kanto Underground battle facility which is the best/only good content in CC. Without it CC is just a huge grind of rematching gyms to fight stronger gyms and the overleveled OC Elite 4.

What hacks did you work on?

Radical Red, Unbound, and Gaia are all shit
Inclement Emerald is the closest to a perfect pokemon experience that exists

I'm playing the insanity difficulty mod for Eternal X right now and it's the most interesting these fights have ever been. Reason being that the game is balanced around Exp Share being on, and if Exp Share is on, then I can play on Set for the entire game. Hacks like what Drayano made for previous gens suffer from me inevitably feeling like I need to switch back and forth between Shift and Set to make sure Exp is distributed properly. It's obviously doable but annoying and no I do not have the restraint to just stick to Set.

Triple battles still suck though. Thankfully only one major battle fell under that so far. The rotation battles were awesome. Hacks like this do expose just how infuriating it is to get a bad nature though, as that will actually matter for a game this tough. You'll also need two backup team members in the daycare at all times, someone with knockoff, and a set up sweeper, preferable something with either Quiver Dance or Dragon Dance.

So yeah, best difficulty hack I've ever played. Some battles feel like puzzles you've got to put together.
