I'm pretty sure the gen 6 protags were supposed to be like 17/18, it'd be a bit werid to have the 20 year old protag running around being treated like a child. Around gen 7 you can see they basically went the full shift into the new generation of kids playing, using popular shit kids like and changing the anime plot to something that would appeal more to younger children.
Don't be such a no-fun allowed faggot user, customization is fun and most MMOs only go into slut clothes and wings because of a vocal minority, trannies and women love that shit while your average person finds them off-putting. But from the looks of it you'll be getting your wish, I'm putting my bets on gen 9 being really focused on this academy shit so you can only choose between slightly different uniforms with no options for any colours other than red and purple.

Truth be told, the character changes A LOT just by changing the hair.
But I guess there will me lot more types of costumes, not just uniform long and short
Dont get me wrong, I still think the customization in pokemon is extremely barebones. I wish we could at least change the shape of the eyes and that we could change the eye color on the starting screen not having to wait until you find a shop.
But if we are gonna point a problem in customization lets point the actual problems of customization, not the clothing because obviously there will be more clothes

All clothes are school uniform variants. Hair and face have decent number of options though. Individuality is done by accessories like your backpack rather than the outfit itself.

One of the best things Legends had to offer was just being able to let your Pokemon out to chill and interact with, this screenshot basically confirms you can do that with friends right? Only thing that sucks is walking into Pokemon again to instigate a battle like Sword and Shield, such a stupid step backwards
