Yes, there are various drugs such as stimulants and others that reduce REM sleep.

Exercise wouldn't really help with the route cause but finding opportunities to be physically active is a generally good idea for everyone.

The anime and games tend to shy away from more dramatic topics, but I could see the manga doing something like that. It could even go into the possibility of trainers/other leaders not taking her seriously because they see her as "lazy".
I like the idea of it motivating her to be more active, (It reminds of a bit of Erika giving Jasmine advice with contests to help her come out of her shell)
