I think one thing nugenners usually fail to grasp is that the whole love for the 151 goes much beyond the designs simply being better, it's about having a self contained world you genuinely enjoy as is. When people say they only care for gen 1 it doesn't mean they enjoy poorly implemented archaic gameplay mechanics, it's more that when you're in the world of Red and Blue there are no pokegods, ridiculous plotlines, etc. When you look at the pokémon universe as it currently is sure there's maybe a whole lot more that you can possibly pick and choose to enjoy but it also means having to ignore or accept so much crap that is just horrendous.

Know what I mean? Perhaps someone with a better vocabulary could explain it better.

>it's more that when you're in the world of Red and Blue there are no pokegods

PokeGods were literally one of the biggest playground rumors of that era

The fact that they were rumors instead of cringey bullshit masuda put into the game is what made the world so intriguing. There was room for speculation and wonder. It's part of the same reason why nu-wars is so soulless compared to the OT.

your point being?

Yeah, I am no genwunner, but I do miss when the poke world was more mysterious and less sterile.

It may not have actually been in the game, but people believed it was. No different from all the crazy Ocarina of Time rumors, the lack of internet allowed the rumors surrounding the game to turn it into something far bigger than it actually was.

or, in other words, you missed the point

>when people say they like they gen 1 they dont mean they like the bad aspects they mean they like the good aspects
Yes, OP, that's generally how liking things work.

I unironically think the objectively terrible gameplay mechanics add some subjective enjoyment and immersion.
Not the glitches, but the shit like one special stat, speed-based crits, weird movepools, etc.
It's unbalanced and unintuitive, but nature is unbalanced and unintuitive. It makes the journey to discover the weirdness more interesting.

>it's about having a self contained world you genuinely enjoy as is
Wrong. Gen 1 is characterized by the games being supplemented by Stadium, the anime, the TCG, and other media / merch more than any other Gen.

it's nostalgia
just like the gen 2 fags, the gen 3 fags, the gen 4 fags and so on

People exaggerate how "bad" the mechanics are as if other RPGs at the time were different. The older Final Fantasy games have several moves that don't work as intended yet no one shits their pants at those games

Not really, it's pretty easy to separate the games (pre yellow of course) being that they were made before all other media existed and there's clearly visible distinctions between those games and the other stuff. Meanwhile even if you dismiss yellow as a spinoff, starting in gen 2 the influence starts permeating being that """Red""" 's strongest Pokemon is a Pikachu, there's pikaclones in every gen, Pikachu says it's own name on the 3d games, Ash's Greninja in the games, Jessie and James on Let's GO, etc...

I like how gen 2 did deities
They were part of the culture and optional encounters

Red/Green, Blue and Red/Blue are literally the only Pokemon games completely free of the anime influence

Justify it all you'd like but the world of Red and Blue will never be enough for me. 251 is a good stopping point. 151 ain't shit.

>buzzwords and lies
Christ.

People were literally projecting what they saw in the anime onto the Gen 1 games when they played them.

It was so barebones that you pretty much had to use the anime to fill in the blanks for what towns/cities would look like, and how Pokemon battles would operate.

Gen 1 may not have been influenced by the anime because it predated it, but it still played a huge part in how people perceived Gen 1.

I'd be on board if they were 100 good additions not whatever crap this is

They are funny looking
Gen 1 has a lot of tough looking pokemon

Just like you're literally just describing the meta phenomenons surrounding a lot of kid's perception of games in those times, it shouldn't and doesn't have any bearing on the games themselves, just like you can't judge The Dark Knight Rises(it is terrible but still) based on the meta phenomenon of the big guy for you meme that took over.

The games are absolutely not barebones that you need the anime to fill in the gaps, just like any other jrpg it has plenty to get the imagination going. In fact the whole thing Op mentioned about having a cool enjoyable universe as is goes out the window if you start perceiving the world like in the anime with shit like team rocket being moronic incompetent buffoons with a talking Meowth that constantly blow up into the stratosphere instead of gang of shady yakuza-like motherfuckers holding whips who steal fossils, murder cubones mother, run a casino that gives stolen pokemon as prizes and try to take over a tech company. The anime quite literally ruins the universe that was set up in red and green.
