Found another hint only the first rounds might be 3 on 3. This is from the opening of today's ep that recapped the Lance fight, once again they said the "first rounds are 3 on 3."
Maybe the semi's will be longer after all? Did anyone else notice this?

Translator user here, I got alerted that I might have caused some confusion with one of my translations.
So in this blurb specifically it talks about Ash’s teams being very tactical, and he will use new strategies in this battle against Steven. In the very top blurb it specifically says that Gengar’s trump card is Gigantamax. However it doesn’t actually say that Gigantamax Gengar will be used, it’s just one of the many strategies Ash could use in his battle against Steven. It’s just a possibility, but because of the blurriness of the scan I incorrectly noted that he’d be using Gmax Gengar against Steven. For that I sincerely apologize
