I assume you never tried Fossil Fighters. It's just as tedious to 100% them as normal Pokémon, but just playing the first two games for fun has been pretty enjoyable, if not a little bit silly. Too bad Champions is $150 on the market.

I dont know if it counts as a "monster catching game", but id say the SMT series is pretty good.

It's not the main focus of the game but Epic Battle Fantasy 5 lets you catch every foe to use as summons.
